On a Windows 10 machine, I try to download a Grib file, I get the error - "Server could not be contacted, please check connection". I have tried to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and 8 and also as an administrator - the same error.

Although the software can be found on a few websites, its functionality is somehow affected since no official website is provided. The status of the website is known at this time, and various users reported that they've had problems connecting to the online server to download the data. I've seen some that had the same issue as you. From this side, Ugrib appears to be a discontinued product that won't return any time soon. This is definitely the cause to the protocol error you're having since no connection can be made to the server.
I use Ugrib since more than 10 years. I receive now the message "Name resolution failure". What can I do ?

You receive that error because the server used by Ugrib is in maintenance, discontinued or your Firewall is not configured to allow communication to Internet for the application. However, this has been asked before if I recall correctly, and other users experienced the same issue, which could only mean that the software is actually discontinued.
Another problem is that not even their website is working anymore which confirms my statement that the product is discontinued.
I have Ugrib for almost 7 years on my computer and always work great. Since a couple of weeks I can't get the .grib files anymore. The software gives the following message: "The server could not be contacted. Please check your connection. The error code was: NameResolutionFailure.

The error refers to the fact that the server where the files are stored is not accessible anymore. This issue could be caused by a few factors like:
The server is in maintenance and you should come back later.
Your Firewall is preventing Ugrib to download the files, therefore add it to the exclusion list.
The software is discontinued and the servers as well.
I have the application running, but when I try to download grib file it comes up with message "Unable to connect to server". Check connection." Error code: name resolution failure.

That means the software can't reach the server to download the necessary file because:
The server is blocked because the software is blocked on your PC. Use the Firewall or your Security Suite and add it to the exclusion list.
The service you are trying to use is out a order because of maintenance or repair.
The service is discontinued, therefore the cause of the error (most probably!).
I've also tried to download and use it, but it appears that the official website is out of order.
The area select screen goes "Not responding" and no download occurs. Previously saved files can be displayed OK. Everything was fine until Windows 10 was installed.

What you're experiencing is a compatibility issue with Windows 10. Your installed version of Ugrib is not compatible with Windows 10, therefore it gives you errors. I have installed the application on Windows 8.1 64bit and it works without giving errors. I recommend you download the application from the official website, then apply a compatibility tweak. Right click the setup and the executable (after is installed) and choose Properties > Compatibility. Select Windows 8.1 from the list and tick the Run as Administrator option.

Is it possible to download and run Ugrib on an iPad?
At this time the software doesn't have a version that is compatible with any Apple device.
